$1 Million Slated For School Computers
Idaho schools will get a $1 million federal grant to increase the number of computers in school classrooms.
Sen. Larry Craig said with state, federal and private funds, Idaho hopes to achieve at least a ratio of five students per computer by 2000.
In 1990, the ratio was 25.7 students to each computer. In 1996, it reached one computer for each 6.3 students.
Craig is a member of the Senate’s Education Technology Working Group, an informal group of senators from both parties dedicated to increasing the use of computer technology in rural schools.
“Computers can play a very positive role, especially in rural states like Idaho, where students often don’t have access to the same sorts of learning opportunities available to those in larger cities,” Craig said.
