Eric DuBose pitched a complete game on just three days rest as Mississippi State defeated Washington 4-3 Monday in the NCAA Mideast Regional baseball final to advance to its sixth College World Series.

After Chris Magruder led off the UW ninth with a solo homer, DuBose struck out the next two batters before getting cleanup hitter Ryan Soules to fly out to end the game.

“Pitching on three days rest is tough, but after it got late in the game and our crowd ( 10,688) got into it, there’s no way I was coming out,” DuBose said.

Barry Patton delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and send Mississippi State (46-19) to the CWS for the first time since 1990.

UW finished 46-20.

“It’s heartbreaking … there is no way to put it into words,” said Magruder, who had a regional-high 13 hits. “We’ve played 66 games, and it comes down to a couple of pitches and we lose by one.”
