Eastern Volleyball Assistant Reprimanded
The Big Sky Conference issued a letter of reprimand to Eastern Washington University associate head volleyball coach Wade Benson on Wednesday for his conduct following his team’s five-game win over Montana State in Bozeman last Saturday.
After the match, Benson yelled obscenities directed toward the Montana State coaches and players.
In addition to the conference reprimand, Eastern Washington athletic director Dick Zornes has suspended Benson for one game and has asked Benson to write a letter of apology to the Montana State coaches and players. Benson joined the Eagles coaching staff last year after four years at Western Oregon State College.
“The actions of Wade Benson are completely contrary to the standards set by the Big Sky Conference,” Commissioner Doug Fullerton said. “I am, however, pleased that Eastern Washington saw to it that the matter was addressed appropriately, and along with the letter of reprimand the Big Sky Conference accepts the sanctions placed on Benson by his own institution.”
Benson will not be on the bench when the Eagles face Weber State in Ogden, Utah, tonight.
