You can’t mess with perfection

Someone has created a paper doll in Dennis Rodman’s likeness dressed in a wedding gown and pink panties.

Sounds like something Rodman would endorse, right? Wrong. The Chicago Bulls forward is suing.

Rodman alleges two publishing companies marketed the toy against his desire, which is to protect his carefully crafted image.

Rodman’s Costa Mesa lawyer, Richard Howell, says in the suit that Rodman rejects numerous offers to protect his marketability as “a well-known, extremely successful, and popular athlete, entertainer and author.”

A horse with a reputation

Team Valor, the Pasadena, Calif., syndicate that sent Captain Bodgit to the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year, just bought another 2-year-old named Rodman.

Said Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune: “Yeah, 2-year-old sounds about right.”

Rodman may or may not be a good horse, but he’s already great at being a horse’s ass.

Barry knows winning

Barry Switzer, battling a cold, rumors of his dismissal and a season heading south, holds to the theory the Dallas Cowboys are capable of making a championship run if they can beat Washington on Sunday.

Dallas, winner of five consecutive NFC East titles, is 5-5, with one of the losses 21-16 to Washington in the sixth game of the season. The Redskins stand 6-4.

Dallas hasn’t missed the NFL playoffs since 1990, but the current team has trouble winning despite owning the No. 2 defense in the league. The offense can’t score touchdowns.

Switzer said last Sunday’s 24-6 win over Arizona helped team morale. There had been some grumbling among players that practices weren’t hard enough.

Switzer said the practice talk “was just an excuse for getting your butt beat. I’m coaching the same way I have all my life. Winning is the only thing. It doesn’t cure cancer or AIDS, but it cures football problems.”

Switzer was in full command on Tuesday even though he was feeling bad. He ended his quick news conference by saying, “I’ve had enough of this. I’m sick. I know you (the media) are too.”

Give Barry credit for being perceptive.

Reality check

Jerry Reynolds, Sacramento Kings director of player personnel, on comments made by the Los Angeles Lakers’ Eddie Jones that he doesn’t want to play for the Kings: “It’s a little hurtful, but I mean, I wanted to be 6-foot-4 and handsome, but I’ve had to deal with the obvious, that it didn’t happen.”

A college that sets high standards

San Diego Chargers running back Gary Brown will earn a $1 million bonus if he rushes for 1,000 yards this season. He has 730 yards after 10 games.

Brown attended Williamsport (Pa.) High School. The school’s nickname? The Millionaires.

The last word …

“On Friday night (Oct. 31), the NBA season officially began. As is tradition, Charles Barkley threw out the first fan.”
