As For Babs And Jim, It Seems A Love Is Born

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

The question isn’t if Barbra Streisand and James Brolin are going to marry. It’s when.

That, at least, is what he is claiming. Brolin, long a television actor (he’s probably most famous for the 1983-88 series “Hotel”), is busy filming “Pensacola: Wings of Gold” in San Diego.

“I’d like to make a bride out of (Streisand)… and then go on a good honeymoon,” Brolin told the New York Post. “And I don’t know how we’re going to do that until we wrap up here in February or March.”

As things go, though, the 57-year-old Brolin and 55-year-old Streisand are inseparable.

“I feel like I’ve been married to her since the day we sat down together a year and two months ago,” Brolin said. “The honeymoon should be over by now, but I just can’t stand to be away from her.”

Loose talk

Gabriel Byrne’s spokesman on the 46-year-old Irish actor’s relationship with supermodel Naomi Campbell, 26 (in People magazine): “They’re just good friends.”

Despite his name, he doesn’t seem too bright

Charlie Sheen turns 32 today.

‘ER’ cast members have a dream

TV Guide is not the most popular magazine among the cast of “ER.” According to a letter from George Clooney, TV Guide seems to have something against the show’s black members. Of the “ER” cast members, only Eriq La Salle and Gloria Reuben have not been featured on the cover, Clooney charged. Signing the letter were Reuben, Noah Wylie, Julianna Margulies, Anthony Edwards and Laura Innis.

Maybe TV Guide will put him on its cover?

Is Will Smith set to become Hollywood’s highest-paid actor? According to Exhibitor Relations Co., the five highest-grossing films between Memorial and Labor Day were, in order, “Men in Black,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “Air Force One,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “Face/Off.”

There’s myth, there’s reality and then there’s the movies

Although he plays a real-life Harlem gangster in the Bill Dukedirected film “Hoodlum,” actor Laurence Fishburne felt no obligation to sweeten the story. “Black people are everywhere, and they’ve done extraordinary things everywhere as well as some things that are quite embarrassing and shameful,” Fishburne said. “There are a lot of stories, and a lot of them should get told.”

Shouldn’t there be some mention of Carrot Top?

According to Men’s Fitness magazine, the 10 Heroes of Fitness is headed by Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Joe Weider. Weider, you should know, is the magazine’s publisher.

Looking toward 2000, let the electoral games begin

There was bad news and good news for Dan Quayle over the weekend. The good news was that the former vice president donated an autographed photo to an auction in Macon, Ga., to benefit the Tubman African American Museum. The bad news? It garnered only $20.
