Emery Burchett Spokane

Memorial service for Emery F. Burchett, 81, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Burchett, who was born in Lake of the Woods, Minn., died Wednesday.

He was a 68-year Spokane resident.

In 1933, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps. He worked for Boeing prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1944.

After the war, Mr. Burchett worked at Galena Air Depot, repairing planes, then at Carlson Sheet Metal, Babcock Heating, Warren, Little and Lund, and operated his own heating business for several years. Later, he worked for the City of Spokane as a mechanical inspector. He retired in 1979.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, May, and his second wife, Alice.

Mr. Burchett was a member of the Board of Inland Empire Gas Association, Local 44 United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters.

He is survived by three sons, Donald Stratt, Lloyd Burchett and Floyd Vitsmeyer, all of Spokane; four daughters, Jackie and Kelly Brown, both of Spokane, Shirley Quist of Pullman and Sharon O’Connor of Montesano, Wash.; two stepsons, Leslie Kvool of Rochelle, Ill., and James Kvool of Las Vegas; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Blakesley and Kathi Roethle, both of Spokane; two brothers, Gail Burchett of Spokane and Wayne Burchette of Omak, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Albert Falkner Sr. Greenacres

Funeral Mass for Albert A. Falkner Sr., 84, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Falkner, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was a graduate of Rogers High School.

Mr. Falkner worked for the Golden Age Brewery before enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He served as a signalman in the Pacific during World War II.

In 1951, he married Amanda Reisinger in Spokane.

Mr. Falkner worked at Al’s Market, as a car salesman for McCollum Ford and Barton Oldsmobile, and as a housing contractor for Alvin J. Wolff and Ron Hoover.

He also operated a farm in Greenacres.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Albert Falkner Jr. of Spokane, James Falkner of Greenacres, Michael Falkner of Fargo, N.D., and Robert Falkner of Olympia; a daughter, Nancy Perrigue of Spokane; a brother, Robert Falkner of Spokane; and 18 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gonzaga Prep.

Russel McMasters Hermiston, Ore.

Graveside service for Russell L. McMasters, 58, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Freeze Cemetery in Potlatch, Idaho. Burns Mortuary in Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McMasters, who was born in Garfield, Wash., died Friday.

He worked construction on many of the dams along the Columbia and Snake rivers. He also was a selfemployed concrete finisher for many years.

Mr. McMasters moved to Boise in 1969 and to Lewiston in 1971. He had lived in Hermiston since 1984.

He was a member of the American Team Roping Association.

Survivors include three sons, Keith McMasters of Dayton, Wash., Randy McMasters of Hood River, Ore., and Brad McMasters of San Diego; a daughter, Carri Forsman of Ferdinand, Idaho; his mother, Eleanor McMasters of Hermiston; three brothers, Lester McMasters of Hermiston, Allen McMasters of Panama City, Fla., and Ron McMasters of Bremerton; a sister Roberta Kuster of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Robert Chapman Coulee Dam, Wash.

Inurnment for Robert L. Chapman, 76, will be at 1 p.m. today at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee. Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee.

Mr. Chapman, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1939.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

In 1948, he married R. Barbara Wigen.

He worked as a power house operator for the Bureau of Reclamation until his retirement in 1974.

Mr. Chapman was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps Raider Association.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven and David Chapman, both of Grand Coulee; a daughter, Sandee Lust of Medical Lake; and six grandchildren.

George Dick Spokane

Memorial service for George J. Dick, 67, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Dick, who was born in Seattle, died Saturday.

He graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle.

In 1955, he married Angeline Ellis in Seattle.

He worked at Frederick and Nelson in Seattle as a window dresser and manager. In 1967 he transferred to The Crescent department store in Spokane.

Mr. Dick retired in 1986.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marianne Webber of Seattle and two grandchildren.

Rev. Philip Mueller Spokane

Service for Rev. Philip Mueller, 89, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Mueller, who was born in Kaillay, Saskatchewan, died Saturday.

He was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1933 and served 17 parishes in Canada, Iowa and Washington.

He moved to Spokane in 1975.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen; a daughter, Phyllis Marion of Spokane; a son, David Mueller of Kelso, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

O.S. ‘Muletrain’ Marin Spokane

Graveside service for O.S. “Muletrain” Marin, 79, will be at 1 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marin, who was born in Clifton, N.J., died Saturday.

He worked at Kaiser Mead for more than 30 years and was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; and a sister, Tala Capichioni of Sebastian, Fla.

Albert Peterson Spangle, Wash.

Memorial service for Albert Peterson, 74, was Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Born in LaMoure County, N.D., he died Wednesday.

Mr. Peterson moved to Spangle in 1947. He was a cattle rancher.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Peterson of Jamestown, N.D., and Shirley Krause of Riverside, Calif.; five brothers, Henry Peterson of Jamestown, Leonard Peterson of Ardmore, Okla., Leo Peterson of Salt Lake City, Sidney Peterson of Litchville, N.D., and Herman Peterson of Oakville, Wash.

Andrew Dufner Spokane

Funeral Mass for Andrew Dufner, 97, was Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Dufner, who was born in St. Martin, Minn., died Friday.

He moved to Spokane in 1950.

Mr. Dufner worked as a railroad telegraph relay operator and retired in 1965.

He was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers Union.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Dufner of Wenatchee and the Rev. Andrew Dufner, S.J., of Nestucca Sanctuary, Ore.; a daughter, Joan Breidenbach of Missoula; two sisters, Sister Reparata of St. Cloud, Minn., and Sister Odo of St. Joseph, Minn.; 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Arthur Wooddell Spokane

Visitation for Arthur R. Wooddell, 71, will be from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Riveside Memorial Park.

Mr. Wooddell, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

He graduated from Rogers High School and was a World War II Navy veteran.

He worked as a motorcycle police officer in Los Angles for many years.

He lived in Spokane for the past 28 years.

Survivors include a son, Michael Wooddell of Spokane; two daughters, Sandra Wallace of Reno, Nev., and Jodi Claussen of Spokane; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Luther ‘Pat’ Patterson Spokane

Service for Luther E. “Pat” Patterson, 82, was Tuesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial followed at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mr. Patterson, who was born in Waycross, Ga., died Saturday.

He was a 32-year Spokane resident and worked as a truck driver.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blondena.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Phyllis Geving and a stepson, Danny Wayman, both of Spokane; two sisters, Marietta Mauldin of East Point, Ga., and Florence Hathcox of College Park, Ga.; nine stepgrandchildren and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren.

Richard Hagenbarth Spokane

Vigil service for Richard V. Hagenbarth, 57, will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Hagenbarth, who was born in California, died Sunday.

He was a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles and owned an AAMCO shop and numerous other endeavors.

Survivors include a sister, Eleanor Moran of Pleasanton, Calif.; and a brother, Bill Hagenbarth of Spokane.

Ruth Neal St. Maries

No service will be held for Ruth A. Neal, 79, at her request. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Neal, who died Sunday, was born in Laclede, Idaho.

She grew up in Lewiston and later moved to Spokane, where she was a homemaker. She had also lived in St. Maries.

Mrs. Neal worked as a cook for a railroad crew in Canada in 1953 and then worked as a quality control manager for Chef Reddy Co. in Othello, Wash., in 1966.

She retired in the mid-1980s and returned to St. Maries earlier this year.

Her husband, William, died in 1949.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Embry of Montesano, Wash., and Rosalie Chappell of Fernwood, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
