Get Ready For ‘90s Twist On ‘Psycho’ Shower Scene
Get ready to see the famed shower scene from “Psycho” with a 1990s sensibility.
Using the same shooting script wielded by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960, director Gus Van Sant is on the fast track to do a new version of the classic thriller. The film will be done for Universal Pictures.
The new “Psycho” will use the same dialogue and shots as the original with only a few key differences: The movie will be in color, young, hip actors will star, and the locations might be different.
Van Sant, who received an Oscar nomination this year for “Good Will Hunting,” is also expected to bring a modern style to the project.
Like the original, which was shot on a short schedule, the new version is expected to be shot in a 30-day to six-week period.
The original, which starred Anthony Perkins as a deranged motel proprietor, received four Oscar nominations for best director (Hitchcock), best supporting actress (Janet Leigh), best cinematography (John L. Russell) and best art direction-set decoration (Robert Clatworthy, Joseph Hurley and George Milo).
In 1992, “Psycho” was placed on the National Film Preservation Board’s National Film Registry. Since its original release, the film has grossed about $32 million domestically and spawned three sequels.
Van Sant’s other credits include “Drugstore Cowboy” and “My Own Private Idaho.”
