Supporters Recognized By Humane Society
The Kootenai Humane Society has chosen local supporters to be recognized for their commitment, generous financial support, and contributions of time and services.
Awards will be presented to the following:
Bobbie Wolf, Judith Crow, Dorris Everson, Charlie Kimball, Juyne Rich, Grace Batey, Betty Kimball, Grace and Wyatt Harman, Lt. Col. John and Ruth Miller, Abraham and Janet Dale, Charles and Dorothy Starr, Joan Sestak, Lois White, and in memory of Bill Batey and Bliss Haynes.
Two local students have been selected as winners in the statewide Idaho Department of Lands Arbor Day Poster Contest. Winners will recieve a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, and their teachers will also receive $100 for classroom materials.
The students are: Michelle Baldwin, fifth grade, taught by Jennifer Taggart, Seltice Elementary in Post Falls, and Tyrel Nelson, third grade, taught by Judy Fryberg, Priest River Elementary.
Baldwin’s poster will be reproduced and distributed statewide by the Idaho Forest Products Commission. The winning fifth grade entry will go on to the National Arbor Day Contest in Lincoln, Neb.
Elsie Sakuma, a University of Idaho ceramic art student and part-time lecturer in the Department of History, and Justin Ahlin, a UI fall 1997 art department graduate, are two out of three American ceramic artists to be accepted to attend the 1998 International Workshop of Ceramic Art to be held in Tokoname, Japan, this summer.
The workshop is an international event where 18 ceramic artists from around the world spend one summer month working together and then exhibiting their work at the annual Tokoname Ceramic Festival, with some pieces being kept and added to the Tokoname permanent collection.
