Honey Glazed Carrots Could Do Without Nutmeg

Rick Bonino Food Editor

When we decided to serve one of Green Giant’s new frozen vegetables with sauce to our reader food panel, we had three choices: Southwestern-style corn and roasted red peppers, mixed teriyaki veggies or honey-glazed carrots.

Since lasagna and garlic bread were headlining the evening’s menu, we figured the carrots would be the best fit. At least, we did until we tasted the odd-textured carrot slices in an unpleasantly nutmeg-accented sauce.

Suddenly, teriyaki Italian sounded pretty good.

Comments: “I don’t know how they did it, but these were mushy on the outside and very crisp on the inside. Nutmeg adds an eggnog flavor I don’t think belongs on carrots. But at least they weren’t disgusting, just sweet!” - Sandy Davidson

“Didn’t care for the nutmeg. Didn’t care for the texture. Fresh steamed is much better!” - Eileen Bakken
