Ollie Whiteside Spokane

Visitation for Ollie L. Whiteside, 63, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Whiteside, who was born in San Antonio, died Saturday.

She graduated from Wheatley High School in San Antonio, and worked as an operator for US West for 30 years before retiring in 1992.

Mrs. Whiteside was a 27-year Spokane resident and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Telephone Pioneers, the Communications Workers Association and was a former president of the Black Employees Telecommunications Association.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, John; three sons, John Whiteside Jr. of Kent, Wash., and Robert and Gregory Whiteside, both of Tacoma; a daughter, Kiva Whiteside of Tacoma; three brothers, Raymond Jones and Cliffton Mills, both of Washington D.C., and Archie Jones of San Antonio; and nine grandchildren.

June Madsen Whidbey Island, Wash.

Service for June Madsen, 92, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Green’s Funeral Home in Bellevue, Wash. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue.

Mrs. Madsen, who was born in Shelley, Idaho, died Friday.

She graduated from high school and then from Hennigers Business College in Salt Lake City.

Mrs. Madsen began her career teaching at Hennigers and ended it 40 years later teaching at Kinman Business University in Spokane.

She also worked for Allied Purchasing Corp., starting as secretary to the manager at CC Andersons in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and then was transferred to Spokane as personnel manager and trainer for The Bon Marche.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked in the Seattle Temple and taught classes.

Mrs. Madsen moved to Bellevue six years ago and has resided on Whidbey Island for the last year.

Survivors include two sons, Victor Madsen of Corvallis, Ore., and Ken Madsen of Roy, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Bardsley of Langley, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth Wilson Mesa, Ariz.

Funeral for Ruth E. Wilson, 81, is planned for 7:30 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park Sunset Chapel. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson, who was born in Hartford, Kan., died Aug. 12.

She graduated from high school in Hartford and in 1935 married John Wilson.

They later moved to Kalispell, Mont., and retired to Spokane in 1971.

Mrs. Wilson moved to Mesa in 1989. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Carman of Spokane and Jeanne Wilson of Chandler, Ariz.; and two grandsons.

Elizabeth (Schacherl) Hansen Spokane

Funeral Mass for Elizabeth F. (Schacherl) Hansen, 89, is planned for 10 a.m. today at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hansen, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She worked for The Spokesman-Review as a secretary in the classified advertising department from 1930 until 1973, when she retired.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Her husband, Carith Hansen, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Lewis Schacherl of Spokane.

Richard Norbert Cheney

Funeral for Richard J. “Dick” Norbert, 59, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Norbert, who died Monday, was born in St. Louis.

He served in the Air Force and in 1964 married Geraldine Revels in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Norbert, a 38-year resident of Cheney, worked as a machinist for General Machinery Contractors for many years and was an engineer.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon Condrey of Spokane; a brother, James, and a sister, Patricia, both of St. Louis.

Timothy Cowen Spokane

Memorial service for Timothy L. Cowen, 23, is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cowen, who died Aug. 12 from wounds suffered in a beating, was a lifetime resident of Spokane.

He graduated from University High school and played basketball in the Special Olympics for six years.

Mr. Cowen worked as a custodian at Fairchild Air Force Base and most recently was a landscaper with Pre-Vocational Services.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his mother, Bobbie Cowen, of Spokane; and grandmother, Patricia Cazarez.

George Mulhair Spokane

Graveside service for George B. Mulhair, 87, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mulhair, who died Saturday, was born in Walla Walla.

He graduated in 1929 from Ritzville (Wash.) High School and served in the Army during World War II.

A 50-year Spokane resident, Mr. Mulhair worked as a truck driver for Garrett Freightlines for 31 years and retired in 1972.

He was a member of the Teamster Union Local No. 690 and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Evaline, and two sisters, Mildred Wilson of Walla Walla and Josephine Robertson of Bremerton.

Richard Dillard Sandpoint

Memorial service for Richard S. Dillard, 20, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sandpoint Christian Center. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dillard, who was born in Sandpoint, died Thursday in Fairbanks, Alaska.

He attended Sandpoint schools and was a member of Sandpoint Christian Church.

Survivors include his father, Ralph Dillard of Sandpoint; his mother, Tammara Larimer of Leavenworth, Kan.; a brother, Travis Dillard of Leavenworth; a sister, Cynthia Balison of Sandpoint; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Dillard of Bonners Ferry and Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Tucker of Cocolalla, Idaho; his great-grandfather; Clifford Tucker of Arizona; four stepsiblings and numerous aunts and uncles.

Lucille Campbell Spokane

Memorial service for Lucille E. Campbell, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Campbell, who was born in Hover, Wash., died July 26.

She graduated in 1937 from the University of Idaho and was employed by Washington Water Power Co. as a home service advisor for a few years.

Mrs. Campbell was a 46-year member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church where she served as moderator of the deacon’s board and prayer chain coordinator.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fred; a son, Don Campbell; a daughter, Judy Mackey; five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Frank Slocum Deer Park

Funeral for Frank E. Slocum, 74, is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Slocum, who died Sunday, was a lifetime resident of Spokane.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific.

Mr. Slocum retired in 1972 as a detective sergeant with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department.

He was a member of the Retired Deputies Association and the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 45.

His wife of 45 years, Shirley Slocum, died in 1992.

Survivors include four sons, Larry and Terry Slocum, both of Spokane, and Mike and Craig Slocum, both of Deer Park; a daughter, Nannette Gilbert of Spokane; a brother, Philip Slocum of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Dorothy Andrusko of Spokane and Marian Churchill of Kalkaska, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

Joanne (Haddrell) Tyler Spokane

Visitation for Joanne Rose (Haddrell) Tyler, 29, will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Tyler, who was born in Brewster, Wash., died Sunday.

She moved to Post Falls with her family, and in 1987 graduated from Post Falls High School.

Last April she married Arnie Tyler.

Mrs. Tyler was an in-home health care worker.

She was a member of Post Falls Baptist Church and was involved with its youth group. She was a past member of the Post Falls School Board.

Survivors include her husband; two stepsons, Keith and John; a stepdaughter, Brittany; her parents, Don and Thelma Haddrell; a brother, Keith Adkins; three sisters, Diane Dykes, Rhoda Haddrell-Heally and Kellie Barden; and her grandparents, George and Eva Haddrell.

Anna May (Simons) Hoyt Spokane

No service will be held for Anna May (Simons) Hoyt. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hoyt, who died Saturday, was 82.

She was born in Spokane and was a homemaker.

She is survived by a brother, Harly Simons of Medical Lake.

Jennie ‘Millie’ Harper Spokane

Funeral for Jennie “Millie” Harper, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Harper, who was born in Littleton, Ill., died Saturday.

She moved to Montana as a young girl and in 1933 married Joseph Harper in Billings.

In 1935 they moved to Palouse, Wash. They later moved to Idaho and in 1940 moved to Spokane.

Her husband died in 1968.

Mrs. Harper is survived by two sons, Harold of Portland and Kenneth of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Willa Geffre of Moscow, Idaho; two sisters, Catherine Christopherson of Deary, Idaho, and Ella Haley of Orofino, Idaho; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
