68-Year-Old Killed When Train Hits Car

From Staff

A Boundary County man was killed Saturday morning when his car was struck in the passenger door by a fully loaded freight train.

Ronald E. Marcy, 68, was at the Naples railroad crossing around 9:30 a.m. when the train approached, according to the Idaho State Police.

Officers said it appeared that Marcy’s 1993 Dodge Shadow stalled on the tracks and he was unable to get his seat belt unfastened in time to get out of the car. He was attempting to back up when the car stalled, according to the Idaho State Police.

The train was traveling at about 50 mph, and the force of the impact pushed the car more than 2,000 feet down the tracks.

Marcy’s wife, Paulette, 55, who was also in the car, was able to escape just before impact.

The investigation was continuing Saturday evening.
