Vandals Face Tigers, Venerable Coach
Coaches don’t dribble, pass or shoot. Not literally, anyway. But Idaho’s Dave Farrar carries considerable respect for Missouri’s Norm Stewart.
“Most teams emulate their coach to some degree and Norm Stewart is a guy that has beat cancer, heart disease and 700 schools,” said Farrar, whose Vandals will try to avoid being added to the list tonight at 5 PST in Columbia, Mo. “He’s not going to be real intimidated by anything the Vandals do. On the other hand, he’s going to take the whole process pretty seriously and work at it and so is his team.”
Idaho (3-1) will have center Mao Tosi on hand. He’ll rejoin the football team after returning to Moscow.
Missouri is 4-1, incurring its only loss to Southwest Missouri State.
Oregon star signs with Idaho women
The University of Idaho women’s basketball team signed 6-foot-1 forward Jamie Coldren of Eugene, Ore., to a national letter of intent.
Last winter, in her junior year at Marist High School, Coldren averaged 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals per game, earning her first-team all-state honors. She was named league co-player of the year. Marist finished third at state, where Coldren received first-team all-tournament honors.
Coldren was named as one of Oregon’s top 20 athletes this year. She has lettered four times in volleyball, helping her team win a state championship this year. At state, she received first-team all-tournament honors.
