A Dec. 30 execution date has been set for condemned murderer James Edward Wood, but he almost certainly will not be put to death on schedule.

Sixth District Judge Peter McDermott signed a death warrant on Friday for Wood in the wake of an Oct. 9 Idaho Supreme Court decision upholding his death sentence for the 1993 kidnapping, molestation, murder, sexual mutilation and ultimate dismemberment of 11-year-old Jeralee Underwood.

That exhausted his state appeals, but Wood potentially has years of federal appeals ahead of him.

Wood, 50, was sentenced to death in January 1994.
