Pair Acquitted Of Hindering Logging

Two timber sale protesters have been acquitted of impeding a logger in the Otter-Wing sale area of the Nez Perce National Forest.

U.S. District Magistrate Mikel Williams on Monday ruled Forest Service officers failed to prove Michael Bowersox and Sean Gale were “impeding a feller,” by being within two tree lengths of a tree being cut down.

Bowersox and Lori Graves were charged in August with impeding a right of way and maintaining a structure for allegedly occupying a wooden structure to halt logging road work. Williams found them guilty and has set sentencing for Feb. 22.

Graves also is suing the City of Coeur d’Alene, alleging police violated her civil rights when she was arrested while protesting the Aryan Nations parade last July. Graves had refused to let police search her backpack.
