Tribal Casino Helps Problem Gamblers Quit

Gamblers who find that losing money in the Nez Perce Indian Tribe’s casino is no longer fun and that they are having a hard time quitting can get help through a new program the tribe is offering.

“We’re taking the proactive course as opposed to a reactive one because we know the problem is out there,” Clearwater River Casino chief of security Candace Guzman said.

“We have voluntary expulsion, which is where an individual tells us they have a problem and they sign a contract saying they won’t come back for a certain period of time.”

About 10 people have signed voluntary expulsion contracts now, she said. Some cannot come back to the casino for a year. For others the expulsion is permanent.

“We have some people trying to get back in, but they agreed to the terms of the agreement and signed it, and they understand that,” Guzman said.
