Jeff Mitchell went scoreless during Tuesday’s regulation and overtime, but he still had the shot that counted.
Mitchell dribbled the length of the court after a missed free throw and hit a basket with 5 seconds left as Medical Lake edged visiting Cheney 54-53 in double overtime in a non-leaguer.
Mike Chappell scored 12 in the third quarter and Jeff Nichols had eight rebounds as the Cardinals denied Cheney coach Denny Humphrey his 502nd career win.

Brewster’s lone loss is to Blaine, last year’s State 2A runner-up, when Chewelah finished fifth. Jeremy Grubb had 11 rebounds for Chewelah, which shot 20 of 62 from the field.
