Report Lists Priorities For Fixing Schools

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane architectural firm will present an overview of the state of school buildings in Plummer and Worley at a public forum Wednesday.

ALSC Architects’ report details a number of facility problems in the school district, based on immediate, five-year and 10-year needs.

The report suggests a number of electrical and mechanical repairs are needed, but how the district invests money for improvements will not be discussed until the study’s second phase, Superintendent George Asan said.

The architects were brought in to do an independent study of the district’s buildings.

“The purpose of the meeting is to provide information to people who in the past were curious about the condition of our buildings,” Asan said.

Some residents have questioned whether district facilities - particularly the Worley School - were in compliance with health and safety codes.

The architects’ study lists each school’s most pressing problems and suggests the district should not reinvest in several Worley outbuildings that house music and shop classes.

School board members, members of the facilities committee and the architects will be on hand to take questions and comments. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the middle school gymnasium. , DataTimes
