Dear Heloise: Yours is one of the first articles I go through when the paper (The Times-Picayune) arrives in the morning.

I would like to share my hint with you. I cut out recipes from all the boxes I buy - cake mixes, sugar and other dry products. This way I have built an assorted collection without spending money on cookbooks. In many cases, the recipes are on the hard backing of the boxes, which is very convenient to cut out as index cards. - Prabha Chidambaran, New Orleans

How right you are. And the manufacturers have tested and perfected those recipes, so you shouldn’t end up with a dud.
