Governor Rallies For Disabled Workers

From Staff And Wire Reports

Gov. Phil Batt wants the Legislature to authorize higher minimum payments for seasonal workers disabled on the job.

Under current law, the payment could be as low as $3.60 per week, if a seasonal worker making $200 per week with no work history was injured the first week on the job.

The House State Affairs Committee took the first step toward boosting the payment on Friday, voting introduction of legislation encouraged by Batt. It calls for a minimum of $66.45 per week, no matter how much a seasonal worker is making or his or her previous work history. , DataTimes
