Coles Helps Vikes Keep Season Alive
District 9-B basketball
Garfield-Palouse found the proper medicine Wednesday: a win in a loser-out game.
Senior Logan Coles returned to the lineup and teamed with classmate Brad Bischoff for 38 points and 18 rebounds as Gar-Pal topped LaCrosse-Washtucna 62-48 in a boys District 9-B tournament loser-out at Washington State University.
Coles, a 1,000-point career scorer, missed the second half of Tuesday’s loss to Waitsburg after suffering an irregular heartbeat when he took five pain pills for shin splints one-half hour before tipoff.
Coles was taken to Pullman Memorial Hospital during halftime. The Vikings, trailing by six at the time, lost by 19.
A doctor had advised Coles to take three pills 2 hours before a game.
Coles said he had a similar incident a month ago when he was using two inhalers he didn’t need for his athleticinduced asthma.
Bischoff scored 15 in the first quarter and finished with 25, pulling him within 19 points of also reaching 1,000 points.
Gar-Pal (19-6) meets seventh-ranked DeSales (16-5) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in a loser-out game.
Cole Schweiger of the Tigercats (9-16) scored 14 of his 25 in the first quarter. L-W’s Greg Whitman added nine rebounds.
