Batt Names Key Legislators To Juvenile Corrections Panel

Associated Press

The chairmen of the state House and Senate judiciary committees and three others involved with juvenile crime issues have been appointed to the new Idaho Board of Juvenile Corrections.

Gov. Phil Batt named Judy Felton of Buhl, chairwoman of the state Juvenile Justice Commission, to lead the board created in November to advise the governor and the director of the Department of Juvenile Corrections.

“These selections ratify the fine efforts already made and give this first board a clear sense of direction,” Batt said in announcing the appointments Friday.

Besides Felton, the board’s members include Senate Judiciary Chairman Denton Darrington, R-Declo; House Judiciary Chairwoman Celia Gould, R-Buhl; Pete Welsh of Pocatello, a retired FBI agent and regional Juvenile Justice Commission chairman; and Nancy Wolff, city attorney of St. Maries, former prosecutor for Latah and Benewah counties and a Juvenile Justice Commission member.

Besides making policy recommendations, the new board will take recommendations from the Juvenile Justice Commission on local and regional juvenile delinquency matters.
