St. John-Endicott Deadlocks Race

LaCrosse-Washtucna’s sole possession of first place in the Whitman County League disappeared Saturday at the hands of St. John-Endicott, 52-51 at St. John.

Breanna Schmick put the Eagles (8-5, 3-1) up for good when she scored with 3 seconds remaining. Schmick also had nine rebounds to go with 6-for-16 shooting.

The Tigercats (7-7, 3-1) dropped into a three-way tie for first place, with SJE and Tekoa-Oakesdale.

Kelly Larson had 10 rebounds for the Tigercats.

Megan Yerxa scored nine in the third quarter and had seven rebounds. Kristy Engles had 10 rebounds and Mandi Walters had four steals for the Falcons.

Miranda Routh-Corker scored a game-high 24 points on 7-for-20 shooting from the field and 10-for-12 from the line to lead the fourth-ranked Dragons (12-2, 9-0) past the visiting Tigers (5-7, 4-5).

Routh-Corker also pulled down seven rebounds to go with four assists and four steals. Wenchi Liu chipped in six assists for St. George’s.

The Dragons finished with 24 steals. Republic had 20 first-half turnovers.

Cassidy Haas kept the game close for Cusick, scoring nine points in the final five minutes, but the Lions (2-12, 2-7) went on to score four unanswered points in the final 42 seconds to hold off the Panthers (1-13, 1-8) in Hunters. Columbia was missing starter Josie Hudspeth because of illness. The Lions had 12 steals. Becky MacMillan had four assists and Christina Sampson had six rebounds for the Lions.
