Street Closed For Hot Rod Program
The city will close Schneidmiller Avenue today at 5 p.m. through Sunday at 4 p.m. for the River City Rod Run.
The event, sponsored by the Hot Rod Cafe, will start with cruising down Schneidmiller at 7 p.m. There will be a marshmallow-roasting contest with a twist: Marshmallows have to be roasted by the tailpipes of hot rods. The cafe will have a fireworks show around 10:15 p.m.
Saturday, there will be a show and shine car show on Schneidmiller, a valve cover race, a contest to guess when a 1960s-era Cadillac engine will seize up after running hard without oil, a Miss Hot Rod contest, a dance and another fireworks show. The cafe will have a food tent and a beer tent all day.
On Sunday, a contest in which contestants will race to change wheels, plus an awards ceremony, will be held.
About 500 cars are expected to enter the car show, a spokesman for the restaurant said. Entrants can register any time up to the show.
