Scott Sets Course Mark At Canyon

MeadowWood pro Bob Scott tuned up for today’s start of the Rosauers Open golf tournament with a course-record 62 Thursday in pro-am play at Indian Canyon Golf Club.

Scott finished two shots ahead of Walt Porterfield. His round was the best in the course’s 65-year history, according to pro Gary Lindeblad.

The Rosauers team of Al Baird, Paul Van Gordon, Norm Carpenter and Mike Shirts, which lost a playoff for the title last year, posted a second straight 111 in the two best-ball format to take the Seafirst Pro-Am with a total of 222.

There will be 136 professionals and 32 amateurs set to tee off today, starting at 7:30 a.m., in the 54-hole Rosauers Open. The second half of the field will begin play at 12:30 p.m.

Spokane’s Jared Herling has been eliminated from the 97th annual Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s men’s amateur championship at Woodinville, Wash., where four University of Oregon players moved into the quarterfinals.

Herling won his second-round match on the 20th hole, but bowed to medalist Clint Jensen of Portland 5 and 4 in the third round.

Spokane’s Kevin Richards, fourth in the point standings, has qualified eighth for Saturday’s Winston West Series NASCAR race at Fontana, Calif.
