Dear Heloise: I have found a great way to remove labels from cans. Slit the labels up the side using a corn-on-the-cob holder (the kind with metal prongs).

You aren’t likely to cut yourself, and the prongs are just sharp enough for cutting smooth lines. Great for saving the recipes on the back or for school projects. - Christine Keating, Queensbury, N.Y.

Dear Heloise: After purchasing a card table and four chairs for a bridal shower, I was faced with the dilemma of wrapping them. I came up with the idea of using shower curtain liners and I found colored ones at our local discount/variety store. They only cost $3 and we made hearts from construction paper and placed them on the gifts. Besides the gifts the bride got three extra shower curtain liners! - Judy Vavonese, Rochester, N.Y.
