Police Investigate Attack As A Rape

A 41-year-old woman’s allegation that a friend forced himself on her while she was sleeping has police investigating the incident as a rape.

The woman, who found the naked attacker on top of her when she awoke, struggled with the man for about 20 minutes before escaping, according to a police report released Tuesday.

She told police she briefly locked herself in a bathroom before returning to her bedroom to confront the man. The woman demanded that he leave. He refused and chased her as she ran to the front door, shoving her against a wood stove in the living room, the police report said.

Eventually, the woman escaped through the front door and found a neighbor who drove her to the hospital. She was examined for an upset stomach but did not tell doctors about the attack, police said.

Police have not released the name of the 34-year-old suspect. He had stayed with the woman occasionally but did not live with her.

The incident occurred last Wednesday but was not reported until Monday. The woman told police she did not report it immediately because she was embarrassed and afraid.
