Miller Stars On Slopes

Compiled From Wire Services

Three-event skier Bode Miller, who began his season with a flourish, is ending it the same way.

Miller overcame a slip on his first run to capture the men’s giant slalom in the U.S. Alpine Ski Championships. Miller, 20, of Franconia, N.H., beat back challenges from more accomplished skiers such as Thomas Grandi of Canada and Daron Rahlves of Truckee, Calif.

Miller, who enjoyed some success in his first season on the just-completed World Cup circuit, had a combined time for two runs of 2 minutes, 1.00 second. Grandi and Dane Spencer of Boise tied for second in 2:01.07.
