Shadle Park, Ferris and Rogers didn’t give ground Friday in the chase for positioning to the District 8-4A tournament.

All three won to stay within one-half game of each other for third place in the Greater Spokane League.

First place (University) and second place (Mead) had already been decided. Both receive opening-round byes to district, which begins Thursday at Franklin Park, and automatic berths to region.

Whoever places third will open against Lewis and Clark, which is set at No. 6. Thursday’s other loser-out, district opener will match No. 4 vs. No. 5.

In Friday’s play, Kirstin Lynn singled home Rachelle Stockman in the second inning and Highlanders pitcher Jessica Murray left the tying run on third base in the seventh with a strikeout as visiting Shadle (11-7, 11-6) defeated Mead 1-0.

Janessa Karstens struck out five for Mead (15-4, 13-4).

Jenny Lytle homered for the second consecutive day and Kim Domonouski started a two-out, four-run rally in the fourth with a double as Ferris (10-8, 10-6) defeated visiting LC 5-4 for its fifth consecutive win.

Vanessa Shelton’s bases-loaded triple highlighted a nine-run third and Nicki Meyer drove in two more with a triple as U-Hi (18-1, 17-0) defeated NC 16-1.

Katy Oglesbee added three hits and three RBIs for the Titans, who have won 17 consecutive games and 34 straight in league. Heather Honeycutt of the Indians (4-14, 4-13) had an RBI triple for the third run scored off U-Hi in the last 10 games.

Shanelle Test set a school record with 20 strikeouts, and Allison Gardner singled home the winning run with two out in the 13th as Central Valley (6-13, 5-12) outlasted visiting Mt. Spokane 2-1.

Test pitched six innings of no-hit ball, but Terah Summers led off the seventh with a single and scored on Jodi Hultquist’s single. Hultquist had 15 strikeouts. The Wildcats (4-14, 4-13) loaded the bases twice in extra innings but couldn’t score.
