Moscow Sweeps A-2
In their final A-2 District I-II track meet, the Moscow High School boys and girls captured track and field team championships Saturday at the new track at Moscow Junior High School.
Moscow moves up a classification next year when it joins the Inland Empire League.
The Bears boys tallied 159 points, easily topping runner-up Lakeland (112). Priest River was next with 85 and regular-season league champ Kellogg had 83.
Moscow’s girls had a tougher time, piling up 119.5 points to edge league dual winner Kellogg (114). Lakeland was third at 103.
It was a freshman who led Moscow’s girls. Jenny Liou won the 400, 800 and 1,600. She posted a time of 1:00.7 in the 400, had a district record in the 800 (2:18.0) and clocked 5:33.8 in the 1,600.
Moscow pole vaulter Rachel Drury cracked 10 feet for a win.
Leading the Moscow boys were the Williams brothers, Maurice and Lamar.
Maurice won the 200 (23.2) and 400 (51.4) and Lamar took the 110 hurdles (17.0) and 300 hurdles (41.2).
A-4 District I-II
At Kamiah, Kootenai’s boys and girls both placed second.
Deary’s boys ran up 173 points to Kootenai’s 112, while Deary’s girls had 139 to Kootenai’s 119.
Kootenai standout, senior Annie Goodson, collected four firsts. Goodson won the high jump on Friday at 5-2 and came back to triumph in the sprints Saturday in the 100 (13.3), 200 (27.4) and 400 (1:01.4).
Teammate Jamie Bornitz took first in the shot put (33-11-1/2). Clark Fork’s Shannon Decker won the long jump (14-7).
In the boys, Clark Fork’s George Klontz took first in the shot (44-6-1/4) and Kootenai’s Justin Schorzman was victorious in the 300 hurdles (44.0). Falls Christian’s 400 relay team (47.7) also took first.
Tennis
Coeur d’Alene’s boys and girls captured the team championship in the A Region I tournament at Lewiston.
The Vikings finished with 72 points. Lake City finished as the runner-up with 53 and Lewiston was third with 50.
