Cda Boys Win State Swimming Title
Coeur d’Alene’s Brad Kleinjans and Post Falls’ Desiree Johnson each won four events and the Vikings won the boys title at the Idaho High School Swimming Championships on Saturday.
Kleinjans sparked the Vikings by winning the 100-meter backstroke with a state-record time of 52.10 seconds. He also finished first in the 50 freestyle (22.01) and teamed with Tom Allen, Will Stilwell and Brian Rasor for relay wins in the 200 (1:33.72) and 400 freestyle (3:27.37).
Sandpoint’s Ben Palmer won the boys 100 breast with a state-record time of 1:01.72. CdA’s Allen took first in the 200 individual medley (2:02.12).
CdA outpointed runner-up Sandpoint 300-219. The Post Falls girls finished third behind Capital and Borah.
Johnson won the 100 back with a state-record time of 1:00.18. She also won the 50 free (25.70) and combined with Bernadette Detar, Janelle Ruen and Jessica Isenberg to win the 200 free relay (1:47.18) and the 200 medley relay (1:58.08). Sara Thilo, of Lake City, won the 500 freestyle (5:17.06), while Ashley Kleinjans took top honors in the 100 freestyle (58.03).
