North Idaho customers of Washington Water Power Co. have one more week to comment on a proposed 4.04 percent natural gas rate increase.

Rates for residential customers would climb 3.65 percent, adding $1.25 to the average monthly bill.

All other customer classes would also experience increases, except those whose service is interruptible. Their rates would drop marginally.

The changes, which will add $1.1 million to WWP revenues, reflect the higher cost of gas from company suppliers during the past year.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission will take written comments until Nov. 27. The company has asked the regulators to make the rates effective Dec. 1.

On an unrelated WWP filing, the commission voted Thursday to allow the company to extend indefinitely a 1.5 percent rider on its regular electricity rates that funds various conservation programs.

The rider, instituted in 1995, raises $4.7 million annually. The company estimates that money helped trim energy demand by 5.4 average megawatts from Jan. 1, 1997, through July 1998.
