Ethel Copenhaver Colville, Wash.

Funeral for Ethel O. Copenhaver, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Colville United Methodist Church. A second funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the Wilbur (Wash.) Community Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the Sherman Cemetery in Wilbur. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Copenhaver, who was born in Burwell, Neb., died Sunday.

She graduated from Grand Island (Neb.) High School in 1929 and married Walter Wynhoff in 1934. They moved to Republic, Wash., and ranched a 5,000-acre land near Kellar, Wash., for many years. They were later divorced.

In 1952 she married Dick Copenhaver in Creston, Wash., where they owned and operated the Flying A Service Station and Cafe. They moved to Rice, Wash., where they ranched until moving to Colville in 1960.

From 1960 to 1963 she operated and cooked at the Bus Depot Cafe and the Sale Yard Cafe. She and her husband also operated a janitorial service in Colville. Her husband died in 1982.

Mrs. Copenhaver was a member of the Rice/Colville Rebekah Lodge, Spokane Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1474, Quillisascut Grange, American Legion Auxiliary Posts 8 and 40, Colville Senior Citizens Club and the Colville Business Womens Association.

Survivors include two sons, John and Bill Wynhoff, both of Spokane; two stepsons, Deb Copenhaver of Creston, Wash., and Jack Copenhaver of Wilbur; two stepdaughters, Norma Echelbarger and Barbara Grigas, both of Spokane; a brother, Walter Garris of Drain, Ore.; a sister, Mildred Couse of Republic, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation.

Brian Gable Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Brian D. Gable, 36, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. A reception will follow at the Yates Hayden Chapel Gathering Center.

Mr. Gable, who was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, died Saturday in a boating accident on the lower St. Joe River near Heyburn State Park in Benewah County.

He lived in Kimberly, Idaho, until moving to Hayden in 1976, and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1980.

Mr. Gable worked as a specialized drywaller and owned Gable Drywall.

He married Linda Whittaker in 1991.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Brian, Hunter and Miranda Gable; his parents, Anson and Connie Gable of Hayden, Idaho; three brothers, Robert Gable of Hayden, Tom Gable of Moscow, Idaho, and James Gable of Coeur d’Alene; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Seabeck of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brian Gable Fund, Hayden Lake Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Bank of America, Hayden Branch.

Alice Whitmore Spokane

Funeral for Alice S. Whitmore, 78, was held Tuesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial is planned for today at Glacier Memorial Gardens in Kalispell, Mont.

Mrs. Whitmore, who was born in Bisbee, Ariz., died Sunday.

She graduated from Newport (Wash.) High School and attended Eastern Washington University.

In 1943 she married Charles Whitmore, and they lived in Whitefish, Mont., until 1964, when they moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Whitmore was a member of the Turtles Golf Group at Wandermere Golf Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Donna VanDuzor of Redmond, Wash.; a brother, Leonard Shaw of Brookings, Ore.; and two grandsons.

Wayne Campbell Friday Harbor, Wash.

Funeral for Wayne M. Campbell, 79, was held Tuesday at Spokane Memorial Gardens in Spokane. Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Campbell died Friday.

He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad, which later became Burlington Northern Railway, as an extra-board telegrapher in 1937.

In 1938 he married Frances, and they spent several years living in various depots throughout the Northwest.

Mr. Campbell served with the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. In 1949, after an honorable discharge, he went to work as a relay clerk for the railroad in Glendive, Mont. He was transferred to Spokane in 1953, where he worked in communications until his retirement in 1979.

Mr. Campbell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He also belonged to a classic car club in Spokane.

He moved to Friday Harbor 15 years ago.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Marla Stephenson of Spokane and Merri Campbell of Friday Harbor; two sons, Ron Campbell of Valley, Wash., and Richard Campbell of Friday Harbor; two brothers, Wallace Campbell of Benton City, Wash., and Robert Gundhauser of Billings, Mont.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in Spokane.

Lela Crippen Cheney

Funeral for Lela A. Crippen, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Cheney Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney is in charge of arrangements.

A resident of the Cheney-area for the past 23 years, Mrs. Crippen died Saturday.

Born in Asotin, Wash., she was raised near St. John, Wash., and graduated from Hunters (Wash.) High School.

Mrs. Crippen received her teaching certificate from Eastern Washington University and taught at the Waterloo School in Daisy, Wash., and later at Hunters Grade School for many years. She also owned and operated a small store in Gifford, Wash., for several years. She retired in 1972.

She was a member of the Cheney Church of the Nazarene, National Education Association, Retired Teachers Association, Gifford Homemakers Club and the Gifford (Stranger Creek) Grange.

Her husband, Charles, died in 1990.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Kilgore of Wenatchee, Judith Prestegard of Cathlamet, Wash., and Georgia Rist of Davenport, Wash.; a son, William Crippen Sr., and a brother, George Clarno, both of Cheney; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Glenn Page Riverside

No service will be held for Glenn C. Page, 86, at his request. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 55-year Spokane County resident, Mr. Page died Sunday. He was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

He worked at a brewery for several years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Edith; a son, Richard Page of Spokane; three daughters, Sandi Sunde and Glenda Voelker, both of Spokane, and Carole Pearl of Bellevue, Wash.; a brother, Phil Page of Ephrata, Wash; a sister, Dorothy Self of Seal Beach, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

William Parrish Spokane

Memorial service for William C. Parrish, 83, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parrish, who was born in San Francisco, died Saturday.

He was raised on a farm near Porterville, Calif., and in 1940 graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

In 1941 he married Katherine Rathbone.

In 1965 he received a master’s degree in sanitary engineering from Washington State University and worked as a mechanical engineer for several engineering firms, primarily in the aerospace industry. He also worked for many years at the U.S. Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

He retired as associate professor of civil engineering at Washington State University in 1975.

Mr. Parrish received many commendations, among them are honorary memberships of Pi Tau Sigma and Pi Omega Chapters from University of California.

He was also a member of Mensa, was a certified professional engineer in the states of California, Montana and Washington, and a diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Kappy Finstuen of Spokane; a son, Jim Parrish of Odessa, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Helen (Rice) Schudel Spokane

Memorial service for Helen K. (Rice) Schudel, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A 72-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Schudel died Sunday.

Born in Rice, Wash., she graduated from Kettle Falls High School and Kinman Business College. She later worked for McGoldrick Lumber Co.

In 1941 she married Maurice Schudel.

Mrs. Schudel was a homemaker, and a volunteer and charter member at Heritage Congregational Church. She was also a volunteer at many other organizations.

Survivors include her husband; a sister, Pearl Ball of Spokane; and two granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Morning Star Boys Ranch, Shiners Hospital for Children or Heritage Congregational Church.

Durwood ‘Woody’ Sullivan Medical Lake

No service will be held for Durwood H. “Woody” Sullivan, 83, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Medical Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sullivan, who was born in Macedonia, Ill., died Monday.

He moved to Medical Lake in 1945 and worked as an industrial therapist at Eastern State Hospital. He retired 1973.

Mr. Sullivan was known throughout the Medical Lake-area for designing and making fishing lures and equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Billie; a sister, Betty Barcus of Spokane; and a brother, Ernest Sullivan of Reno, Nev.

Zwaantje Bosch Oakesdale, Wash.

Funeral for Zwaantje Bosch, 71, was held Monday at the Oakesdale Baptist Church. Burial was at the Oakesdale Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Rosalia, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bosch, who was born in Holland, died Thursday.

She had been a resident of Oakesdale for the past 15 years.

Survivors include her husband, Willem; two sons, Bill and Eppe Bosch, both of Spokane; her mother, Juliangje Boersma; and two sisters; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John ‘Fred’ Hendergart Jr. Boardman, Ore.

Graveside service for John Frederick “Fred” Hendergart Jr., 84, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Riverview Cemetery in Boardman. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hendergart, who was born in Havlock, Neb., died Sunday.

He was raised in Lockeford, Calif., and in 1939 married Ruth Horn in Lodi, Calif. They lived in Lodi until 1965, when they moved to Blanchard, Idaho.

In 1985 Mr. Hendergart moved from Blanchard to various cities before moving to Boardman in 1997.

He was farmer and a member of the National Rifle Association and the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Hendergart III of Boardman; a daughter, Judith Schultz of Alta Loma, Calif.; a brother, Robert Hendergart of Lockeford; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Katherine Madison Winchester, Ore.

No service will be held for Katherine Ley Madison, 76, at her request. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Long and Shukle Funeral Chapel in Roseburg, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Madison, who was born in Spokane, died Oct. 6.

She graduated from high school in Spokane and from teaching college. She was a teacher for several years.

She moved to Trinidad, Calif., in 1962 and married Fay Madison. They moved to Roseburg where she worked as a bookkeeper for Madison Pacific Homes for several years.

Mrs. Madison was a member and contributor of the Oregon Commission for the Blind.

Survivors include her husband; and a son, George Madison of Glendale, Calif.

Harry McLean Sr. Spokane

No service will be held for Harry A. McLean Sr., 84, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A 56-year Spokane resident, Mr. McLean died Friday. He was born in Toronto, Canada.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and became an American citizen. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1945.

Mr. McLean began working as a tabulator at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood in 1946 and retired as a computer operator in 1976.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris; two sons, Harry McLean Jr. of Spokane and Larry McLean of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Darleen Strange of Spokane; and one grandson.

Marguerite Buchholtz Fairfield

Memorial service for Marguerite C. Buchholtz, 94, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 90-year Fairfield resident, Mrs. Buchholtz died Monday. She was born in Germantown, Minn.

She worked as a clerk in a grocery store for several years, and was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Buchholtz was also a lifetime member of the Washington State Grange.

Her husband, Leo, died in 1967.

Survivors include a daughter, Leola Trescott of Othello, Wash.; a son, Rodney Buchholtz of Spokane; three grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
