Incendiary Device Forces Evacuation

From Staff

A “functioning incendiary device” found Monday morning outside the front door of the Targhee National Forest’s Teton Basin Ranger District office forced about a dozen employees to evacuate.

There was no explosion or fire and no one was injured. Employees worked across town at a Targhee warehouse.

The device discovered by an employee about 6:30 a.m. initially was described as a makeshift bomb. However, Ballard said Bonneville County Sheriffs concluded “it probably wouldn’t have exploded, but might have engulfed the front of the office in flames.”

The device consisted of a 2-1/2-gallon clear plastic jug filled about half full with a liquid that turned out to be mostly diesel fuel.
