Cougs Post Easy Win Over Bears

Wendy Rouse had 18 kills and 10 digs and finished with a .469 attack percentage to lead the Washington State Cougars to a 15-4, 15-11, 15-11 Pacific-10 Conference volleyball victory over the California Bears on Friday at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman.
Alicia Erickson contributed 15 kills, five block assists and a .481 attack percentage for the Cougars (9-8, 6-5).
Alicia Perry totaled a match-high 19 kills for the Bears (6-16, 2-10).
Samantha Spink had 50 assists and 12 digs for WSU, which had a season-high .338 hitting percentage.
The Cougars host Pac-10 leader Stanford, ranked No. 5, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Heather Osberg had 16 kills and Britten Kimbell added 10 kills and 19 digs to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 15-9, 15-3, 15-12 West Coast Conference victory over the San Francisco Dons in San Francisco.
Nicole Lamoure topped the Bulldogs (6-17, 3-5) with 48 assists and four service aces.
The Dons (1-20, 0-7) managed a dismal .053 attack percentage for the match.
Community Colleges of Spokane rolled to a pair of victories at the Mount Hood Classic in Gresham, Ore.
Angel Fairbanks had nine kills and 12 digs to spark the Sasquatch to a 15-5, 15-8 win over Lower Columbia in the opener.
In the second match, Cydny Edmunds had six kills and six digs and Fairbanks added six kills and three stuff blocks to lead CCS to a 15-7, 15-4 victory over Shoreline.
Women’s soccer
Kelly Adamson scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Stanford Cardinal beat the Washington State Cougars 1-0 in Pacific-10 Conference action in Pullman.
It marked the third straight time the Cardinal (8-6-2, 2-4-0) have beaten the Cougars (5-9-3, 3-3-1) 1-0 in overtime.
Stanford had 20 shots on goal, compared to seven for WSU.
“Up to the point when they scored the goal, we had played over 210 minutes of shutout soccer,” said Cougars coach Dan Tobias. “But you can’t continue to do that. If you don’t have the numbers attacking you’re not going to score goals. We’re not utilizing our strengths.”
The Cougars host California at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Jamie Van Note’s goal at the 9:22 mark held up as the visiting Loyola Marymount Lions defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs 1-0 in a West Coast Conference match.
Van Note’s third goal of the season for the Lions (11-1-4, 3-1-1) came off the rebound of an Angela Ichinose shot.
The Bulldogs fell to 4-11-1 overall and 0-5-0 in the conference.
