Groups Plan Rally At Lower Granite Dam

A coalition of environmental groups and salmon advocates is planning a rally at Lower Granite Dam on Thursday afternoon.

“We’ve got to do something to get the ball rolling,” said Shawn Ringo, a Moscow environmental activist who is organizing the Earth Day rally.

Van pools will shuttle Washington State University and University of Idaho students to the Snake River site beginning at noon, leaving from Moscow’s Friendship Square, the UI Student Union Building, Pullman’s Neill Public Library and WSU’s Compton Union Building.

A canned salmon fishing derby and other games are planned during the afternoon preceding the 5:30 p.m. rally. WSU associate professor Charles Pezeshki, Idaho state Rep. Shirley Ringo and 1998 Idaho gubernatorial candidate Robert Huntley are scheduled to speak.
