New faces:
Dr. Randall K. Jacobson has joined the Spokane Eye Clinic. He received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed a residency in ophthalmology at Ohio State University. Jacobson, who has fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal and external eye disease, as well as laser vision correction.
Christy Nettles has joined Performance Physical Therapy. Nettles, who is a physical therapist, is a 1993 graduate of Eastern Washington University. She has had additional training in manual therapy techniques for the spine and evaluation and treatment of extremity musculoskeletal dysfunction. She also has specialized training in vestibular rehabilitation and post-burn scar management.
The Coeur d’Alene Resort has added Jason Joseph Jaeger to its staff as sales manager. He will oversee the resort’s sales efforts in the Seattle and Western Washington markets. Jaeger attended the University of Idaho and graduated from the Hotel and Restaurant School at Washington State University.
He then worked at the Beverly Hilton before earning an MBA from the University of Arizona.
The Spokane general office of New York Life has appointed Steve Millard and Dale Forrest as associates. Both will specialize in personal and business planning.
Moving up:
Wayne L. Asmussen has been promoted to general manager of Hanna & Associates Inc. Asmussen also will continue to function as vice president of strategic planning. Prior to joining Hanna, he spent nine years with Nalley’s Fine Foods in Tacoma. He was named Nalley’s chief financial officer at the age of 30 and rose to become vice president of strategic development before joining Hanna in 1996.
Elected:
Dan Elmore of Othello has been elected chairman of the Washington State Potato Commission for 1999-2000. Elmore, a Columbia Basin potato grower, has been a member of the commission for seven years and has held several offices including secretary, treasurer and vice chairman. He also has been active with the National Potato Promotion Board and the National Potato Council. Other officers include: Lynn Olsen, Othello, vice chairman; Ed Schneider, Pasco, secretary; Gerald Nelson, Burlington, treasurer; and Jim Reimann, George, past chairman.
Dennis A. Cutter, president and chief executive officer of Spokane Railway Credit Union, has been elected president of the World Council of Credit Unions. As president, Cutter, who will serve a one-year term, will be instrumental in guiding the credit union movement worldwide, representing the organization at international functions. Cutter has held executive posts with credit unions since 1965 and was appointed to his current job in 1971. The World Council represents the credit union interests of 96 million people.
Appointed:
Gov. Gary Locke has appointed Janet L. Gilpatrick and Patricia M. Irving to the board of directors of the Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute. He also reappointed Richard Hadley, president and chief executive officer of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, and Michael D. Nowling, president and chief executive officer of The Heart Institute, to three-year terms. Gilpatrick, senior consultant with Rockey West Public Relations, will serve a three-year term. Prior to joining Rockey West, she served more than 17 years as staff, district director and chief of staff to former House Speaker Tom Foley. Irving, who was appointed to a one-year term, is a scientist and business executive with more than 20 years of experience in conducting and managing basic and applied research in environmental and energy sciences and policy, and in technology commercialization. She is founder, owner and president of InnovaTek Inc., an advanced technology company in Richland, Wash.
Steve Wilson, general manager of the Coeur d’Alene Inn, has been appointed by Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne to another term on the Idaho Travel Council. The appointment runs through July 1, 2002. Kempthorne also appointed Dell R. Hatch of Coeur d’Alene to the Board of Landscape Architects, and Curtis Park of Post Falls to the State Board of Barber Examiners. Hatch’s term expires July 1, 2003, while Park’s appointment runs through July 1, 2002.
Kudos:
Coeur d’Alene Mines Corp. has been honored for its safety record at the Petorca Mine in northern Chile. The mining operation was honored by the Washington, D.C.-based Interamerican Safety Council for improving safety performance more than 25 percent in comparison with the previous year. The mine also received the National Safety Council Award for completing one year of operation without a loss time accident and was recognized by the Chilean Safety Council for operating more than 700,000 hours without a loss time accident over a year. The mine also is in line to receive a safety award from the Sernageomin, a Chilean agency similar to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Sandpoint-based Pend d’Oreille Winery received a silver medal for its 1997 chardonnay at the 1999 North West Wine Summit. The winery also garnered bronze medals for a 1997 pinot noir and a 1996 L’CEuvre reserve red wine.
