Not all uppity newcomers hail from the Left Coast. Some come from Illinois, lke Cyd Crue, high priestess of the National Coalition on Racism in Sports and Media. She’s threatening to sue the Salmon School District, even before moving to Lemhi County. Seems (sniff!) the Salmon High Savages name and Indian mascot (sniff!) offends her and her adopted son, a 12-year-old Shoshone-Bannock. (Honk!) “We’re moving here,” railed the Outraged One, “and it’s extremely offensive to my family.” Now, this Potatohead is no fan of the nickname Savages. But I’m less of a fan of outsiders who want to recreate Idaho in their own image (see, Butler, Richard). Stay in Illinois, Ms. Crue.

Larry Craig never looked so good to liberals

Don’t look now but U.S. Sen. Larry Craig’s name is being mentioned for secretary of interior or secretary of agriculture in a George Dub-ya Bush administration. So says Idaho Statesman columnist Dan Popkey. And Larry’s possible successor? (You might want to sit down, if you’re a liberal.) Helen Chenoweth … Scott Yager will be sentenced Monday. This Potatohead asks only that the killer be shown the same consideration he showed the late Idaho State Patrol trooper Linda Huff … Sure, I’m glad to see hydroplane racing return to Lake Coeur d’Alene - at Harrison.

Labor trouble links Farmington, Lake City

Hmm. Dan Dible was forced to resign as city manager at Farmington, N.M., after sour labor negotiations took their toll. And after 12 years at the helm. Sounds like the man Dible will replace, former CdA exec Ken Thompson. In fact, this Potatohead hears that Dible reminds insiders of Thompson. So why the musical chairs? … Congratulations to Richard Butler. He must be proud that graduates of his Hate U. on the Rimrock now are shooting children … Idaho Public Television shouldn’t reject showing “It’s Elementary” because it’s gay friendly. It should reject the controversial documentary because it belittles those who hold traditional family values (i.e., most Idahoans). Shame on the Idaho Board of Education, which includes Post Falls City Administrator Jim Hammond, for giving its unanimous blessing to this P.C. bigotry.
