Wetlands Trust Seeks Project Applications

The Clark Fork Pend Oreille Wetlands Trust is taking applications to fund projects that protect, preserve, or improve wetlands in Bonner County within the Pend Oreille Lake and Clark Fork River watersheds.

Funds can be used to assist public agencies or nonprofit conservation organizations or by individuals to purchase wetlands, easements or other efforts to protect wetlands and improve water quality.

The Clark Fork Pend Oreille Wetlands Trust was created with mitigation money from the Idaho Transportation Department after the agency destroyed some wetlands during road construction projects.

“The Trust has to spend its money within three years, so good applications will be funded,” said Sandpoint Mayor David Sawyer, chairman of the Trust.

Application packets are available at the Sandpoint City Clerk’s office at 1123 Lake Street. Or call 263-3317 to request a packet. Applications are due by Sept. 15.
