Three Wolf Pups Die In Captivity
Three wolf pups taken from the wild have died in temporary captivity, Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee Chairman Samuel Penney said.
The tribe has a contract with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to manage endangered wolves transplanted from Canada to Idaho in 1995 and 1996, and their offspring.
The pups contracted the highly contagious viral infection called parvo.
The mother and five siblings survived and are expected to be returned to the wild by Nez Perce tribal biologists.
