Chewelah Hangs On To Third

Colville’s bid to shake up the Great Northern League slipped away at the end Friday.

Chewelah hit two late free throws, then followed with a steal to edge the Indians 50-49 at Colville.

Josh Parrish scored 21 points for Chewelah, which held on to third place in the league.

Ezra Gordon had eight rebounds and three blocked shots for Colville, which is tied with Newport for last place. The Indians hit 7 of 12 3-pointers and 10 of 12 free-throw attempts.

Adam Swinyard finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Ty Thompson added 10 rebounds as the Stags defeated the visiting Eagles to remain in second place, one game ahead of Chewelah.

DP finished with 17 steals, five by Zack Axel. Despite 27 turnovers, Deer Park had just four of them in the fourth quarter.

Lakeside’s Jordan Bjork also scored 20.

Brent Cummings hit 9 of 14 from the floor to score 24 points as the Class 2A second-ranked Greyhounds defeated the visiting Rams.

Cummings and Anthony Petz combined for 17 rebounds to lead a 48-24 advantage. Ryan Harms added 6-of-10 shooting from the field as Pullman made 51 percent.

ML shot 23 free throws in the fourth quarter. Newport attempted 17 for the game.

Rebounding leaders were ML’s Jeremy Bahr with 14 and Newport’s Matt Vlasman with 11.

The Grizzlies missed 11 of 13 3-point attempts.
