Lake City Pulls Away

Lake City pounded the ball inside in the third quarter Tuesday night and used a 16-2 run to break open a tight Border League game and defeat East Valley 57-42 in Coeur d’Alene.

Timberwolves post players Kellie Stern and Laura Dodge combined for 17 of LC’s 20 points in the third quarter.

Lake City’s 49-31 lead going into the final period was its biggest advantage. However, East Valley’s Knights couldn’t come any closer than 13 points in the final 8 minutes.

Stern led LC with 19 points and Dodge backed her up with 18. Five Timberwolves accounted for the 57 points.

Rebecca Triplett led East Valley with 16 points. Sarah Shogren added 14 for the Knights.

Tiffany Holdahl put in four points in the final minute for the Lumberjacks after teammate Nikki Gibson scored three to break a 48-48 deadlock in a victory over the visiting Tigers. Holdahl finished with nine points, five assists and four steals. Gibson had eight rebounds.

Cassi Reisenauer and Angie Campbell led Timberlake with 12 apiece.
