Theme Park Plans Presented For Burley

From Staff

Developers have presented their plan to city officials for an $18 million theme park they hope to build near the Snake River.

“The community has to be committed to being involved with this,” Larry Eastland told residents and Burley City Council and Urban Renewal Agency members Thursday.

Eastland and Bob Klosterman of Nampa-based Northwest Parks have been talking to the council for more than five months, city administrator Mark Mitton said.

Northwest Parks would like to develop as soon as possible.

“We’d like to open in 2000,” Eastland said.

The first phase of the plan would cost $12.6 million.

It would include construction of a Western-styled main street and a plaza.

There also would be a food court overlooking the river, an area for children and possibly a television studio for commercials and movie stunt shows, Klosterman said.

The first phase of the park would be seasonal, geared for the summer months.

The plan’s second phase would include a concert amphitheater and year-round indoor concert center.

The second phase of the park would cost at least $6 million, Mitton said.
