Flat Trojans Spend Time In Bibby’S Doghouse
USC’s losing streak reached six Saturday, but this loss was unique - the Trojans made more noise after the game than during their 95-86 loss to Washington State.
Or at least USC coach Henry Bibby did. He chewed out the team for more than 20 minutes in the locker room, apparently fed up with the Trojans’ lackadaisical play.
As USC’s once-promising 10-2 start has self-destructed into a 10-8 record, patience has begun to wear thin for Bibby and his players.
“I told the team I’ve recruited every one of them and we have nine games to go and now, we’ll see what we’re made of,” Bibby said. “We were flat. We’re letting too many games get away. It was a game we could have won.”
Bibby just wasn’t as diplomatic when he explained this to the Trojans.
“Nothing we didn’t deserve to hear,” senior guard Adam Spanich said. “We need to stop being so selfish. Everybody needs to look in the mirror and realize what they need to do to help the team.
“Talking and snickering doesn’t help the team. Guys need to stop complaining about how we do things, saying things like `We don’t run this play or that play.’ That includes everybody on the team. Coach had a reality check and asked if everybody is with him and they said they are.”
The only good news for the Trojans is that month is finally over, a disastrous four-week stretch that saw USC go 2-7.
