Sr. Legion Tournament Champs Return
The Falls vs. Falls showdown of 1998 went to Great Falls.
The Great Falls (Mont.) Stallions are scheduled to defend their title at this week’s Senior American Legion baseball Fourth of July tournament. The event begins today at Gonzaga University, Whitworth College and Shadle Park’s Jackson Field.
The Stallions defeated Idaho Falls in last year’s championship game. Idaho Falls is also set to return to the 12-team tournament, and is again in a different division than Great Falls.
The Cannons, Blue Devils, North Stars and Royals will represent Spokane’s six-team league. Also in the field are the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen, Gresham (Ore.) Ganco Construction, Tacoma Senators, Prairie (Post Falls) Cardinals, El Segundo (Calif.) Blue and Olympia Black Hills Bandits.
The format includes two six-team divisions, assuring each team at least five games. Four teams will advance to Sunday’s round which will include an 11 a.m. consolation and 2 p.m. championship, both games at Jackson.
The Prairie Cardinals of Post Falls are the defending champions of the Junior Legion tournament.
Prairie defeated Spokane Athletic Supply (Central Valley) in last year’s championship game.
Both are returning to the 12-team field for the four-day tournament at CV and University high schools. Sunday’s championship game is set for 2 p.m. at CV.
Other Spokane teams scheduled to play are Granny’s Buffet (Mt. Spokane), Olympic Sports (U-Hi) and Kimmel Athletic (Ferris).
