Robert Carns St. Maries
Memorial service for Robert J. “Bob” Carns, 71, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Mr. Carns, who was born in Kentucky, died Saturday.
He grew up in Kentucky and served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Mr. Carns lived in California after his military service and married Connie Cullinane in 1951. He received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from San Diego State University.
He then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers on test stands for the Apollo moon rocket missions and later as a shift engineer on the Dent Bridge and Grand Dad Bridge at Dworshak Dam in Idaho.
Mr. Carns then became resident engineer at Ford Ord, Calif., retiring in 1985. He moved to St. Maries where he built a cabin on Coon Creek in the Benewah Valley.
He was a member of St. Maries Community Presbyterian Church, the St. Maries Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite bodies and Calam Shrine Temple. Mr. Carns also was past secretary and treasurer of the St. Maries Shrine Club and was a member of the St. Maries Crutch Patrol.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Matthew Carns of Kellogg; two daughters, Julie Wilmoth of Post Falls and Vera Gilpatrick of California; two brothers, Reid Carns of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Marvin Carns of California; and two grandchildren.

Julia (Krieter) Oaks Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Julia Lee (Krieter) Oaks, 61, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Mrs. Oaks, who was born in St. Maries, died Saturday.
She graduated from St. Maries High School in 1956 and later moved to Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Oaks had worked as a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Spokane. She was a homemaker and oil paint artist.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Darrel; two daughters, Kim Turcott of Lewiston, Idaho, and Tammy Martello of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Torgerson of Coeur d’Alene; three stepsons, Kevin, Keith and Kent Oaks, all of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Jeff Krieter of St. Maries; three sisters, Neta Titus White of St. Maries, and Kitty Spiesman and Carey Passini, both of Phoenix; and six grandchildren.
Juanda Deno Spokane
Funeral for Juanda Grace Deno, 59, will be at 6 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Private burial will be held in Plummer, Idaho.
Mrs. Deno, who was born in Pine Ridge, S.D., died Saturday. She was a 15-year Spokane resident.
She served in the Navy for two years and later went to work for Pitney Bowes. She retired in 1997.
Mrs. Deno was a member of the Sacred Heart Mission in Desmet, Idaho, and the American Legion Post 69 in Plummer.
Survivors include two sons, Guy Nelson of Spokane and Chuck Nelson of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Mary Buckles of Spokane; her parents, Tom and Emma Nelson of Manderson, S.D.; two sisters, Bunny of Omaha, Neb., and Irene of Spencer, Neb.; a brother, Jim of Palmdale, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Katherine Flowers Greenacres
Funeral for Katherine Louise Flowers, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial will follow at the Newport Cemetery.
Born in Dodge County, Neb., Mrs. Flowers died Saturday.
As a child she moved to Tama, Iowa, with her family. In 1931 she graduated from Tama High School.
In 1932 she married Ernest Flowers. They moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1946, living in Sandpoint, Pomeroy, Wash., the Tri-Cities, Newport, Dalkena, Wash., and Spokane County.
Mrs. Flowers worked as a farmer, a logging camp cook and property manager.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Stuart of Riondel, British Columbia, and Pat Curotto of Idaho; three sons, Bob Flowers of Douglas, Ariz., Jerry Flowers of Rathdrum and Mike Flowers of Newman Lake; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Helen Lawson Athol, Idaho
Visitation for Helen Lawson, 80, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, followed by a service at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Yates Hayden Chapel Gathering Center. Burial is planned for Thursday at 3 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
Mrs. Lawson, who died Monday, was born in Minnesota.
She grew up in the Spirit Lake and Blanchard, Idaho, areas and received a licensed practical nursing certificate after graduating from high school.
In 1962 she married Jim Lawson. They lived in California. She was a nurse in the San Francisco Bay area for more than 30 years. They moved to Athol in 1972.
She served on the Athol City Council for 12 years and was a member of the Athol Baptist Church and the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include her husband; and three nephews. Andy, Terry and Jay.

Catherine Miller Spokane
Funeral Mass for Catherine E. Miller, 92, will be at 8 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
A 72-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Miller died Sunday. She was born in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Miller worked in housekeeping in the health care industry.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society and the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.
Her husband, Bertrand Miller, died in 1976.
Survivors include a son, Robert Miller of Lynnwood, Wash.; a daughter, Patricia Pope of Spokane; two sisters, Joeie Gaborit and Lucille Meuret, both of Wenatchee; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Genevieve (Lahde) Williams Page, Idaho
Memorial service for Genevieve Lillian (Lahde) Williams, 76, will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at Kellogg Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Williams, who was born in Pinehurst, died Friday. She married Palmer Williams Sr. in 1943 and was a lifetime Silver Valley resident.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a member of the Steelworkers Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Grandmothers Club.
Her husband died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Palmer Williams Jr. of Tacoma; three daughters, Susan Oehler of Kuna, Idaho, Karen Haynes of Page and Lynn Rose of Smelterville, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Robert Nack Spokane
Funeral for Robert Carl “Bob” Nack, 78, is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash. Burial will follow at Chewelah Memorial Park.
Mr. Nack, who was born in Hood River, Ore., died Saturday.
He was raised on a farm in Hood River and graduated from Hood River High School in 1939.
Mr. Nack attended Oregon State University in Corvallis before enlisting in the Army Air Corps. He served as a B-24 pilot during World War II, flying 30 combat missions over Germany.
In 1945 he married Jane Benson.
After his discharge from the military he worked in several construction and engineering jobs. He then moved to Butte, Mont., to attend the Montana School of Mines.
Mr. Nack rejoined the Air Force at the beginning of the Berlin Airlift, and served another 20 years as a pilot, navigator and intelligence officer. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1967.
He then moved to Mountain Home, Idaho, where he farmed alfalfa and raised horses. In 1974 he moved to Parkdale, Ore., where he owned a 20-acre orchard.
In 1983 he sold the farm and moved to Chewelah. He had been in Spokane since 1997.
His wife died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Nack of Renton, Wash., and Kim Nack of Florissant, Mo.; two daughters, Carole Fredekind of Post Falls and Laurie Stokes of Tacoma; and 13 grandchildren.
Ellen Norgaard Coeur d’Alene
Visitation for Ellen E. Norgaard, 72, will be today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service is planned for Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Norgaard, who died Sunday, was born in New York City.
In 1943 she married Gilman Norgaard. She lived in New York and worked as an administrative assistant for the American Kennel Club before moving to Coeur d’Alene 12 years ago.
Mrs. Norgaard was active at the Coeur d’Alene Senior Center and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Her husband died in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Allen Norgaard of Post Falls; two daughters, Carol Gunther of New York City and Darlene Gardner of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Marilyn Griffen of California; a twin brother, William Passoni of New York; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Millheisler Newman Lake, Wash.
Memorial service for Robert “Bob” Millheisler, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Millheisler, who was born in Burlington, Colo., died Thursday.
He grew up in Kidd Island Bay near Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1948. He served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps from 1950 until 1952.
Mr. Millheisler briefly attended Gonzaga University and then opened a real estate office in Coeur d’Alene with his mother, Vera Millheisler. He also was involved in local land development.
He settled in the Spokane area in 1970 and later moved to Newman Lake.
Mr. Millheisler was a member of the Spokane Eagles Lodge No. 2.
Survivors include three daughters; four brothers, two sisters, and seven grandchildren.

Cary `Randy’ Barnett Newport, Wash.
Funeral for Cary “Randy” Barnett, 53, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Burial will follow at Newport Cemetery.
Mr. Barnett, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday of cancer.
He graduated from Mead High School in 1964.
Mr. Barnett worked as a plumber for 33 years. He moved to Newport 15 years ago.
In 1993 he married his wife, Debbie.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lewis Hutchins at home and Tim Barnett of Priest River, Idaho; a daughter, Kim Sands of Newport; his mother, Lillian Barnett of Elk; two brothers, Bill Barnett of Elk and Dave Barnett of Spokane; two sisters, Debbie Church of Elk and Tina Moody of Newport; and six grandchildren.

Wilma O’Brien Spokane
Private memorial service for Wilma V. O’Brien, 83, will be held at a later date. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. O’Brien, who was born in Rockford, died Sunday.
She was a 50-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Mrs. O’Brien is survived by four sons, Michael O’Brien of Post Falls, Bob Bateman of Houma, La., Dick Bateman of San Antonio and Jim Bateman of Farmington, N.M.; a stepson, Terry O’Brien of Cut Bank, Mont.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
