BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries

The Kiddie Korner has merged with the Community Child Care Coalition’s community day-care center. The Kiddie Korner board will act in an advisory capacity for the preschool portion of the center, and will raise money for playground equipment and furnishings.

BONNER COUNTY Priest River

Priest River Museum and Timber Education Center and the Chamber of Commerce’s Travel Information Centerare operating under summer hours. The centers are open 8 a.m to 4 p.m. Monday though Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry

KOOTENAI COUNTY Coeur d’Alene

The eighth annual Walden House Classic golf tournament on June 18 raised $11,000 for the Kootenai Medical Center Foundation’s Endowment Fund. The event raised money for the nine-bedroom Walden House, which provides rooms for KMC patients and their families. The tournament was co-sponsored by Silver Lake Mall and Washington Trust Bank. Sixty other individuals and businesses also helped sponsor the event.

LATAH COUNTY Moscow

Karen Kessler of Chicago is directing two plays in Moscow this summer for the Idaho Repertory Theatre. Rehearsals began May 30. “The Complete Works of America (Abridged)” will open July 2 and continue with showings on July 3, 9, 16, 21, 27 and 30. “The Merry Wives of Windsor” will open July 13, with shows on July 17, 18, 23, 28, and Aug. 1, 4 and 6.

SHOSHONE COUNTY Silverton

East Shoshone Hospital District board members discussed ways to cut expenses for the Silver Valley Medical Center on Wednesday. The board discussed the insurance rates the district pays for the hospital building and its contents and billing procedures. Trustees postponed action on several decisions pending the outcome of the bankruptcy hearing Tuesday in Coeur d’Alene.

WASHINGTON

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Newport

The Newport City Council recently voted to borrow $61,372 from the airport fund. The money will pay off two outstanding loans on the fund. The council also approved a transfer of $10,800 from the airport fund to cover budget shortfalls. The city is in financial straits and is looking for ways to pare back.

WHITMAN COUNTY Colfax

Area farmers and developers are hoping the Northern Leopard Frog is truly gone from Whitman County. The frog was recently named as a candidate for the state’s endangered species list. The Leopard Frog was last seen sunbathing in a man-made Pullman pond 14 years ago. If it still exists, area officials will be expecting a list of restrictions to the county.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby

The Lincoln County Domestic Violence Task Force has formed a “zero tolerance” policy for domestic violence for local agencies. The plan has been incorporated into a 17-page section of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office policy manual. The response plan was developed for law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, victim advocates, clergy, medical community and chemical-dependency counselors, but has not been adopted by the Libby or Troy police departments.
