Benefits Were Illegal

From Staff Reports

A Moscow man has admitted illegally collecting unemployment benefits after an Idaho Department of Labor investigation.

Gary L. Tolle of Moscow pleaded guilty in district court to misrepresentation to obtain benefits after labor officials found he concealed his weekly earnings while receiving unemployment benefits. They also found Tolle failed to report he had voluntarily quit a job during the time he was filing for benefits.

In addition to four years of supervised probation, Tolle was ordered to serve 30 days in the Latah County Jail and pay the Idaho Department of Labor $3,070 for benefits he illegally received.

The Idaho Department of Labor has nine staffers assigned throughout the state to investigate fraudulent claims, recover benefit overpayments and other auditing activities. Approximately $608,000 of fraudulent unemployment benefits were recovered in 1998.
