A space heater ignited a blanket on a bed early Thursday chasing a father and his teenage daughters from their house.

All three escaped the house uninjured. Firefighters contained the flames to a basement bedroom, but smoke filled the single-story house at 403 Stagecoach Drive.

Post Falls firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire about 6:30 a.m. Damage to the five-bedroom house was estimated at $5,000.

Smoke detectors alerted the family to the fire, firefighters said. The father was making breakfast, one daughter was in the shower and another was getting dressed, firefighters said.
