Instructor, Student Escape Plane Crash

A flying instructor and his student walked away from their wrecked plane Saturday after it crashed at Coeur d’Alene Airport.

Hayden Fire Chief Ralph Kramer said the student, Jon W. Groth, 31, of Kingston, was flying the single-engine Lake LA-4 plane when he lost control in strong crosswinds about 12:30 p.m.

“The instructor grabbed the controls and made a crash landing,” Kramer said.

Neither Groth nor the instructor, Michale D. Kincaid of Hayden, were injured, sheriff’s deputies said.
