Harrison Mayor Wins Another Term

Unlike last time, no coin toss will be needed to decide the Harrison mayoral election.

Dave LePard won re-election Tuesday, defeating Dean Christensen, 74-56.

The two men also ran against each other in 1995 and tossed a quarter to settle a 59-59 tie vote.

Other winners in the Harrison elections were John Aktepy, Annie Russell and Arleen Woodside, who will fill the three open seats on the City Council.

The vote tally was Aktepy, 113; Woodside, 87; Russell, 86; and Richard Hodge, 68.

The major issue in the lakeside town is repairing the water and sewer systems. Harrison has secured a federal grant and expects to get another to finish the work.

LePard’s critics, who included Christensen and Hodge, were upset when he and the council approved creation of a local improvement district to help pay for the work.

St. Maries

Land surveyor Jerry Wicks and forester Dick Burch were elected Tuesday to the two contested seats on the St. Maries City Council. They will serve for two years.

The vote tally was Wicks, 258; incumbent Burch, 183; Sandra Smith, 12; and Darrell Bryant, 68.

The three open four-year council positions were not contested. Richard Hage got 261 votes; Blair Peet, 267; and Ed Spooner, 286.

Worley

The open two-year Worley City Council seats were won by smoke shop employee Don Sczenski, who was re-elected with 39 votes, and emergency medical technician Rosalie Taylor, who tallied 26 votes. The third candidate, police officer Robert Wienclaw, got 25 votes.

Mayor Charlene Waddell, who ran uncontested, received 45 of the 60 votes cast. Also elected to the council without contest were Lorri Gum, with 37 votes, and Mark Turman, with 44 votes.
